Original lobby card for the musical Hi De Ho. Rare lobby card for Cab's 1947 musical, which premiered at the Squire Theater, New York, and then opened at more than 500 Black theatres. Numbers include Calloway's once-seen-never-forgotten versions of "Saint James Infirmary" and the "Hi De Ho Man".Calloway (1907-1994) is described by Cook and Morton in their authoritative Penguin Guide as "one of the most extravagant jazz entertainers... The lexicon of reefers, Minnie the Moocher and Smokey Joe, kicking gongs around and - of course - the fabulous language of hi-de-ho would soon have become tiresome if it hadn't been for the leader's boundless energy and ingenious invention".
