This is an exceptional rarity, the original first edition UK hardcover in first state dustjacket of THE HITCH HIKER'S GUIDE TO THE GALAXY, by the incomparable Douglas Adams. It is commonly referred to (especially in North American editions) with HITCHHIKER as one word or even hyphenated as HITCH-HIKER, but the original publication had it as two words, as shown on the cover, copyright page, and title page: THE HITCH HIKER'S GUIDE TO THE GALAXY. The book is rare to find in its first edition hardcover from Arthur Barker in the UK. Even rarer is to find it in the first state dustjacket, which bears an advertisement for the novelization of the movie Capricorn One. See the last photo which has this key defining aspect to make it a first state dustjacket. The second state dust jacket lacked this advertisement. The book is in very fine condition in a very fine, unclipped 1st state dust jacket that is protected by a loose mylar jacket. It appears unread and I doubt you can find a finer copy anywhere. It is also SIGNED by Adams on an inserted title page from a Pan Books paperback edition of the book. Adams visited Bakka Books in Toronto and signed this for me many years ago; I removed the title page and put it into this book where it seemed better suited. ++ This book is from my own collection that I am down-sizing.
