This rare and vintage ADONIS LTD. / MALE CLASSICS / ACME publication titled MODERN ADONIS No.24, dated 1963, features physique photography of muscular young men partially dressed in posing straps or less. The cover prominently displays “MODEL by PHOTOGRAPHER on the cover.” Although this mini-digest appears unread, the cover shows slight wear. Publisher Joe Weider, renowned for his World Wide Body Building Magazines, including Your Physique, Muscle Power, Muscle Builder, Muscle, Flex, American Beauty, and others, as well as his involvement in Mr. Universe, Mr. Olympia, and other bodybuilding contests, collaborated with Lon Hanagan to create Body Beautiful and Adonis magazines in the 1950s. Recognizing his substantial gay readership for his bodybuilding magazines (Your Physique), Joe Weider enlisted the talents of Lon Hanagan and George Quaintance, who had previously designed the first covers for Bob Mizer’s Physique Pictorial magazine. Lon Hanagan also created Body Beautiful and Adonis magazines, which were initially published in England and later in America.” Joe Weider, a Canadian bodybuilder and entrepreneur, co-founded the International Federation of Bodybuilders (IFBB) with his brother Ben Weider.
