Wakefield, with most & cordial greetings from his friend MM, Oct 1923", and additionally signed by him on the front pastedown.Monahan ruthlessly satirizes the prohibitionists, the Puritans, and the moralists. "To believe that Prohibition will stand is, in my view, to believe that the Republic has lost her way" (foreword). He argues that Prohibition has launched a wave of crime and religious bigotry, and required an army of spies to enforce.
