CHURCHILL, Winston S.
Inquire · Offered by Peter Harrington
Typed letter signed, on receiving a book of cartoons of Lord Randolph. Churchill writes to Mrs Cyril Young, "to express to you my sincere thanks for your kind thought in sending me the book of cartoons concerning my Father", adding by hand in a warm postscript, "I have looked thro' them w. keen interest. They are full of history".Letters from Churchill thanking for gifts are not uncommon, but, given the volume he received, most were drafted by secretaries and show little personal engagement. This example is unusually fulsome and clearly reflects Churchill's genuine appreciation.
