The prolific English novelist Marie Belloc Lowndes writes to an admirer to reminisce about the Churchills' wedding and to maintain that she always believed Churchill would return from his wilderness years.Lowndes writes to Mrs Lebbius R. Wilfley of 277 Park Avenue, New York. "I agree in your estimate of Mr. Churchill. I knew his mother and Mrs Churchill's mother. I was at the wedding of their only son in a beautiful old church in Westminster, now, alas, bombed to pieces. One looks up at the church, and it is like looking at a piece of rather coarse black lace held up against the sky".She continues: "During all the years Winston Churchill was in eclipse, and they were very long years, I can truly say I was one of the very few people known to me who felt quite certain he would come back into public life.
