First Edition, 8th Printing (number line ends in 8), published by Summit Books in 1985. Overall in VERY GOOD OR BETTER CONDITION. Dust jacket with light edge wear, a tiny tear or two, faint age-toning on edges, fully intact and now handsomely preserved in a mylar jacket. Clean boards and red spine cloth, clear gilt spine titling, faint edge and corner wear. No interior marks in 233 clean and solidly bound pages except for NICE INSCRIPTION, DATE (1989), AND SIGNATURE OF AUTHOR OLIVER SACKS ON THE FIRST FREE ENDPAPER. The signature has not been authenticated, but the handwriting and signature are consistent with other examples easily found online, including examples seen in other copies of this book (at much higher prices!). The book was inscribed to Rachel Hartig. Rachel M. Hartig was a Professor in the Department of Foreign Languages and Literatures at Gallaudet University, Washington, DC. She retired from Gallaudet in 2011 after teaching for 38 years. Gallaudet University is a private, federally chartered university in Washington, D.C., dedicated to the education of deaf and hard-of-hearing students. The book is considered the most important book authored by Neurologist Oliver Sacks.
