Scarce first and sole contemporary edition, first impression, of this "vividly realistic account of the work done and hardships endured by [the] Royal Field Artillery in the war" (publisher's advertisement). Taylor served as a lieutenant with 67th Brigade RFA, seeing action in Salonika in 1916 and Messines in June 1917; he died of mustard gas poisoning in November of that year.Lengel notes that his book "includes a moving introduction by his grandfather". It was published as part of John Lane's "On Active Service" series.
