Quia Pauper Amavi. First edition, signed limited issue, number 65 of 100 copies signed by the author. This copy is additionally inscribed by Pound on the front free endpaper, "To Princess Jane di S[an] [Faustino], not to be confused with her daughter-in-law. E.P. anno X [1932]". It further includes two authorial annotations in the contents.This poetry collection contains the first English publication of Cantos I-III, here annotated by the author on page 19, "Early draft don't bother with it". Pound has also corrected the misprint "wherefore" to "wherefrom" on page 34.Born Jane Allen Campbell (1865-1938), the princess married into Italian nobility after leaving New Jersey for Rome. Her obituary notes she "quickly attracted attention by her disregard of many stiff conventions to which the society of four decades ago was bound. Her final jolt to Italy's titled families came just before her death, when her memoirs, crammed with incidents of her long life here, replete with names and details, appeared in a weekly paper". She received the Red Cross Gold Medal in 1929 for supporting a group of children infected with tuberculosis in Testaccio.
