As founder of the Royal Microscopical Society, the surgeon John Thomas Quekett (1815-1861) was perfectly qualified to write this popular and authoritative manual. This book was influential on professional medics and amateurs such as Prince Albert, who came to Quekett for tuition, and the Quekett Microscopical Club, which still exists, was set up in 1864 to commemorate his achievements in promoting the advancement of microscopy.
