This is the 1965 first edition of Beard's landmark photographic book documenting the wildlife, landscapes, history, and environmental transformation of East Africa. Combining Beard's photographs with historical imagery and text, the book examines the changing relationship between wildlife, colonial development, and the African landscape. It became one of the works most closely associated with Peter Beard and his documentation of Africa. This is a vintage book and shows age-related wear. The dust jacket has tears, rubbing, edge wear, creasing, and fading. The cloth-covered boards have minor rubbing and light soiling.
