The "Sino-Japanese Disturbances" Souvenir Album. Shanghai. 1932. First edition of this photobook depicting Japan's undeclared war in China. The half-tone illustrations feature both Japanese soldiers from the Shanghai Expeditionary Army and Chinese soldiers from the 19th Route Army.The Shanghai Incident erupted on 28 January 1932, when the Japanese military bombed the city in retaliation for the murder of five Japanese Buddhist monks by a Chinese mob. This was the first major aircraft carrier operation in Asia and a precursor to the Second Sino-Japanese War.
