Port from the Vine to the Glass. First edition, presentation copy, inscribed by the author to the writer of the foreword, "Ernest Cockburn, with the best wishes, thanks and appreciation of the author of this humble work, Geoff M. Tait. 2.9.36." The recipient (1889-1945) was a partner in the family firm Cockburn, Smithes & Co., one of the world's leading port houses.Above the inscription (on the front free endpaper) is a second, which reads, "Dear Ernest, Please accept this copy with my love and best wishes, Geoff." After Cockburn's death, the copy passed to Frederick Armine Cockburn (1902-1981), a chairman of the firm and, for the year 1959-60, master of the Worshipful Company of Distillers. His book label is on the front pastedown.
