William Jr and his father, a former US singles champion, won a national father-son title twice."In his government work, [Clothier] was an FBI special agent in Peru, Cuba and Chile in World War II. He used his 1938 bachelor's degree in anthropology from Harvard as a cover. From 1952 to 1979, [he] was a CIA officer, gathering intelligence and aiding defectors" (New York Times obituary).
