Narrative of a Residence at the Court of Meer Ali Moorad; with Wild Sports in the Valley of the Indus. First edition. The author (1796-1871) served with the 3rd Madras Cavalry and was tasked in the late 1850s with accompanying Mir Ali Murad, ruler of Khairpur, back to India. He "provides important details of Indian court life and travel. His sporting adventures are rather sketchy, though he includes notes on tiger hunting, wild boar, hog deer, and other game" (Czech).Murad became ruler in 1842, following Mir Rustam's forced resignation of the Turban, in return for supporting Britain's annexation of Sindh. However, he lost much of his power and domain in the early 1850s when British authorities accused him of obtaining his crown by forgery and deception. After siding with the British during the Indian Rebellion, he was permitted to rule without further interference until his death in 1894.
