Ol' Rum River: Revelations of a Prohibition Administrator. First edition, inscribed by the author on the front free endpaper, "To Mr. Charles J. Wolfram with the compliments of the author. Ira L. Reeves, Chicago, Aug. 14, 32". Wolfram (1871-1951) was a leader in Cleveland's German community; the American German community, on the whole, opposed prohibition.Reeves was formerly prohibition administrator in New Jersey. He was a teetotaller prohibitionist and took the job with enthusiasm - this book is his account of his disillusionment, as the corruption and deceit, widespread public disobedience, and lack of support from Washington rendered prohibition a failure and forced his resignation.
