Almanach des femmes pour 1852. First edition of the first volume of this feminist journal, comprising articles by Deroin and other authors under pseudonyms. Having been previously imprisoned by the Napoleonic regime, Deroin fled France in 1851. Her continued outspoken criticism of French society and government put her at risk of further incarceration, and this almanac was therefore published from exile in England.Deroin's (1805-1894) articles focus on progress as a central tenet of liberty. In particular, she encourages women to study and emulate pioneering feminists such as Olympe de Gouges. The Almanach was published in English and French annually until 1854, and Deroin remained in England as a celebrated social pioneer until her death.
