The Apple II. First edition, containing Steve Wozniak's product announcement for the Apple II personal computer. Wozniak's article (pp. 34-45) describes the hard- and software of the Apple II, as well as some programming issues ("The Problem with Sweet Sixteen") and their innovative solutions. The text is accompanied by colour photographic illustrations displaying the computer's 15 colour capabilities. The launch of the Altair 8800 in 1975 made microcomputing accessible to non-specialists and very popular. Catering to the upsurge in hobbyist interest in computing, Byte provided advice on both hardware and programming, later developing into an academic technical journal. It was the second microcomputing magazine, following Creative Computing by just a few months.
