Byte: The Small Systems Journal. First editions of the complete first volume of Byte, comprising 16 issues and the index. These issues record the early development of the personal computer industry that followed the upsurge of hobbyist interest after the Atair 8800 launch in 1975. The magazine provided advice on both hardware and programming, later developing into an academic technical journal.Byte was the second microcomputing magazine, following Creative Computing by just a few months. It was established by the publisher Wayne Green (1922-2013), who previously ran the amateur radio magazine 73. His switch to publishing on personal computers was lucrative and in 1979 Green sold the magazine to McGraw-Hill, where it became the second best-selling technology publication behind Business Week. The final edition of Byte came out in July 1998.
