No Name. First edition. Immediately following The Woman in White (1860), Collins wrote No Name while renting Fort House, the favourite seaside residence of Charles Dickens. Collins "had already shown the early instalments to Dickens, who was enthusiastic about the general tone and momentum of the narrative that he had read with interest and admiration" (Ackroyd, p. 127).The edition comprised 4,000 copies, of which only 400 remained by the evening of publication.
