Les mollusques marins du Roussillon. First edition of "the best available account of western Mediterranean molluscs" (Dance, p. 205). The two volumes - dealing with gastropods and bivalves respectively - are extensively illustrated and include original photographs. The work established several new taxonomic genera, such as Donovania and Payraudeautia.Dautzenberg (1849-1935) was one of the foremost shell collectors of his era. His collection forms the core of the Royal Belgian Institute of Natural Sciences's conchology collection, one of the three largest in the world. Dollfus (1850-1931) and Bucquoy (1837-1904) were both distinguished malacologists who also worked in the fields of geology, medicine, and botany. Dautzenberg and Dollfus went on to collaborate on an ambitious study of Middle Miocene shells in the Loire Valley in 1902.
