In the Encyclopedia, Hegel methodically derives each concept from its predecessor to provide a comprehensive, logically rigorous account of the ideal structures underlying all reality.The work was written for Hegel's lectures as professor of philosophy at Heidelberg (1816-18). Following its publication, he was offered the chair of philosophy at Berlin, "the most prestigious position in the German philosophical world" (Stanford Encyclopedia of Philosophy).
