In the work, More argues for "the essential goodness of human nature to be translated into virtuous action under the direction of the 'boniform faculty' through which the principles of morality are imprinted on the soul" (Pyle, Dictionary of Seventeenth-Century British Philosophers, p. 588).Provenance: Edmund Jones, possibly the Edmund Jones (c.1624-1674) who matriculated at St John's College, Cambridge, in 1645, and then worked as a presbyterian minister in Lancashire, his ownership inscription dated "nov. London 1668" on the initial leaf.
