"This is Hobbes's answer to the personal charges made by John Wallis in his Hobbius Heauton-timorumenos 1662, in which Hobbes was accused of deserting the King and writing the Leviathan in support of Cromwell's title. As Wallis had deciphered Royalist correspondence captured at Naseby for the benefit of the Parliamentarians, Hobbes tells here his and Wallis's 'little stories during the time of the late rebellion' with such effect, as G.
