Jure Naturae First Mascovius edition, "probably the most popular of the numerous editions which this work experienced" (Stintzing, translated, p. 237).Pufendorf's treatise was first published in 1672, giving "a complete system of law, public, private, and international, based on natural law. Against Hobbes's view he contended that the state of nature was one of peace, not war, and urged the view that international law was not confined to Christendom but existed between all nations. His work, though for long inadequately appreciated, is of great importance. He presented the basis of a universal legal science on the basis of natural law" (Walker, p. 1017).
