DRUMMER #10 — the Holiday Issue, December 1976, from the magazine’s rare and turbulent Los Angeles era. This is founding-period Drummer, published while John Embry’s operation was under active LAPD harassment — the same pressure campaign (including the infamous 1976 “slave auction” raid) that would soon drive the magazine to San Francisco, where it became the defining leather publication of the century. Issues from the LA run are the hardest to find and the ones serious run-collectors are always missing. And what an issue: the cover is an early signed drawing by REX, the dotwork master whose stipple technique became the gold standard of leather illustration — early Rex is especially prized since his passing in 2024. Inside, Etienne (Dom Orejudos), co-founder of International Mr. Leather, plus the “King” leather comics feature, movie coverage, and the intact center foldout.
