The Necessity of Poetry. First edition, signed by the author on the title page in black ink. One of Bridges's epitaphs ("I died in the very flow'r, yet call me not unhappy therefore...") in another hand is tipped-in the the reverse of the upper wrapper, and is signed by Bridges. The couplet was one of the author's "Poems in Classical Prosody" (see Poetical Works, 1912, p. 460).
