Jin gen weida lingxiu Mao zhuxi fenyongqianjin! (Closely Follow Chairman Mao and Forge Ahead Courageously!) An attractive example of a famous Cultural Revolution poster showing Mao presiding over an inestimable number of his flag-waving supporters. Unattributed to any particular publisher, this copy was likely printed toward the end of the Cultural Revolution specifically for sale to foreigners.This image first appeared in 1969 as a poster published by Shanghai People's Press. By this point, three years into the Cultural Revolution, Mao reigned supreme, having swept his political rivals aside and grown his cult of personality into a ubiquitous part of everyday life. In the early 1970s, as the number of overseas visitors to China increased, they could purchase selected posters in special tourist-facing stores in Beijing, Shanghai and other major cities.
