Set of the five monumental compilations of symbol and pseudoscience by James Churchward (1851-1936). He he followed a variety of careers (including authorship of two hunting and fishing guidebooks in the 1890s) and had travelled widely around the world before patenting a steel hardening process just prior to the first world war. The Lost Continent of Mu, asserting that a sunken continent in the south Pacific Ocean was the cradle of humanity, appeared in 1926 with a printed dedication to G. L. Tanzer of Seattle, who had provided financial backing. The second edition of The Lost Continent of Mu, published in 1931, carries a different printed dedication: "Dedicated to my friend William Nevin by whose help and discoveries I have been able to bring to fruition this work". The book includes a chapter on sunken cities of Mexico with reference of Niven's archaeological work.
