Presentation copy , with the printed presentation letter from the Exhibition Commissioners pasted to the front endpaper, dated Melbourne, June 1867, and signed in type by J. G. Knight, Secretary and Manager, with the recipient's name completed in manuscript: "To G. Cunnack, Esq." The Intercolonial Exhibition of Australasia opened in Melbourne on 24 October 1866, in purpose-built wings adjoining the Public Library that would later become the site of the city's Industrial and Technology Museum, and closed on 23 February 1867 after drawing an extraordinary 268,634 visitors. Nearly three thousand exhibitors participated, the majority from Victoria but with substantial contributions from every other Australian colony, together with New Zealand, New Caledonia, the Netherlands East Indies, and Mauritius.
