Groundwork of Economics. First edition of the first work published under the author's own name. Devas also wrote the Manual of Political Economy for the Stonyhurst Philosophical Series in 1892, which had enduring success as a textbook used by schools and seminaries. Before attending Oxford, he had converted to Catholicism, which remained a constant centre of his writings.Henry de Trafford (1877-1915) was educated at Balliol, like Devas, after attending the Jesuit boarding school Stonyhurst. He became a Captain in the 2nd Battalion of the South Staffordshire regiment, and died in France on 25 September 1915. The War Diary records that, on the day of his death, the company, "came on splendidly, ably led by Capt. de Trafford, who behaved with the greatest coolness and daring".
