CHRISTIE (AGATHA) / MALLOWAN (AGATHA) An attractive domestic archive comprising 3 autograph letters signed by Agatha Christie as Agatha Mallowan , together with 11 letters and 1 note from her secretary Charlotte Fisher to Miss Glasspool, on Green Lodge and Greenway House headed paper. A revealing group concerning the practical management of Christie s houses, including Cresswell Place, Sheffield Terrace and Greenway, with references to renovation, repairs, rent, wartime arrangements and the proposed sale of property. Christie s much-loved house at Cresswell Place, converted from former stable buildings, had been renovated after her move to Sheffield Terrace, with work undertaken to the bathroom, kitchen and windows. By 1938 she had decided to sell the property, reportedly for not less than 2,200 , with Charlotte Fisher and Miss Glasspool involved in the arrangements. A particularly appealing archive for showing Christie away from the public image of the Queen of Crime: here she appears not as novelist, playwright or celebrity, but as householder, landlord and practical correspondent, dealing with rents, leases, alterations and wartime domestic inconvenience.
