A small number of first impression copies signed in this manner were sent to large bookshops, which generally offered them as prizes in competitions.The publishers released a statement when the book of the play was announced confirming that Rowling would not be doing any publicity or signings. Based on an original story by Rowling, the director Tiffany, and the playwright Thorne, the play premiered at the West End's Palace Theatre on 30 July 2016 and at Broadway's Lyric Theatre on 22 April 2018.
