Coll and His White Pig. First edition, first printing, presentation copy inscribed by the author on the half-title, "For Frances Lee, hoping she will enjoy this tale of Prydain - Lloyd Alexander", also signed by the illustrator. Lee (1906-2000) was a popular actress of the silent film era and later a children's librarian in California.Although not part of the series, this children's work sits in Alexander's world of Prydain, a fictional country which takes its name from the medieval Welsh word for Britain. It tells of a warrior-turned-gardener whose magical pig is abducted. "Fast-moving and accessible, [Prydain] has heroic characters, led by Taran, the assistant pig keeper who ends up as ruler of a new kingdom" (Eccleshare). With roots in Welsh mythology and the Mabinogion, the fantasy kingdom inspired the 1985 animated film The Black Cauldron.
