A Wrinkle in Time. First edition of the author's beloved and frequently banned science-fantasy classic. A Wrinkle in Time won the Sequoyah Book Award, the Lewis Carroll Shelf Award, and the most coveted children's literature award: the Newbery Medal. The jacket is in the first state, without the Newbery Medal sticker that was affixed to later copies. The book was rejected by 26 publishers until John Farrar decided it was worth a chance. Because of its themes of magic and witchcraft, A Wrinkle in Time has been accused of being anti-Christian and is on the American Library Association's list of frequently challenged books. In her acceptance speech for the Newbery Medal, L'Engle remarked that "a book, too, can be a star, 'explosive material, capable of stirring up fresh life endlessly', a living fire to lighten the darkness, leading out into the expanding universe."
