A finely bound collection of Ballets Russes programmes and souvenir publications, including the troupe's early and important ballets. Each programme is wonderfully preserved, displaying the extravagant stage and costume designs by famous artists such as Bakst and Picasso as well as the legendary dancers. This stunning collection was luxuriously bound by Xavier de Planhol, a professor of geography at the University of Paris-Sorbonne and a widely acknowledged authority on Iranian civilisation. A full description listing each programme can be provided upon request. 20 vols, (all 4to bar one folio); profusely illustrated by artists such as Picasso, Bakst, Derain, Cocteau and others; uniformly bound in either marbled paper morocco backed marbled paper, two of the early volumes bound with the rare gilt printed tissue paper wrappers, all with morocco labels to spines with gilt titles, a fine set.
