heart-shaped red morocco bookplate A beautiful example of Allestree's The Whole Duty of Man, well-preserved in this English Restoration binding of red goatskin, the covers panelled in gilt with an all-over design of floral vines; appearing through the front pastedown, a charming heart-shaped goatskin bookplate incorporating the initials 'A' and 'E'. The tooling in the central rectangular panels shares similarities with a gilt roll more commonly employed to decorate the borders on a number of bindings of this period. (See nos 104, 107, 114, 117 and 199 illustrated in The Henry Davis Gift: Volume II, ed. Mirjam M.
