Atomic Bombing: How to Protect Yourself Prepared by Science Service, Inc. Wm. H. Wise & Co., Inc., New York Copyright 1950 Original 1950 hardcover edition of this fascinating early Cold War atomic-age civil defense book, complete with its scarce original illustrated dust jacket. Published at the beginning of the Cold War, the book was intended to prepare American civilians for the possibility of an atomic attack. It includes period information and illustrations covering atomic bombs, civil defense, emergency preparedness, radiation, protective measures, shelters, first aid, the history of atomic energy, and related subjects. The original dust jacket features a striking full-color mushroom cloud/explosion illustration over a cityscape. The hardcover beneath has tan cloth boards with black “Atomic Bombing” lettering and “How to Protect Yourself” shield design. Also retains the original period advertising material incorporated into the dust jacket, including the unused mail-in offer/First-Aidial advertisement. CONDITION: Pre-owned vintage condition with substantial age and wear. The original dust jacket is heavily worn and fragile with significant paper loss, tears, chipping, creasing, edge wear, spotting/foxing, discoloration and other age-related deterioration. There is particularly substantial loss to portions of the rear dust jacket and along the edges. The front panel retains the great majority of the colorful atomic mushroom-cloud artwork and remains very displayable despi
