An excellently illustrated booklet on the history of the Bayt Al-Falaj Fort (Muscat), which was the Headquarters of the Sultan’s Armed Forces from 1921 to 1978. Upon the army moving to a more modern facility, Sultan Qaboos Bin Said Al Saud decided the fort would become a museum dedicated to Omani military history. The content describes the role of the fort in several conflicts and campaigns, including the Bani Bu Ali expedition (1820-21), a punitive campaign launched by the Sultan of Muscat and the East India Company. The campaign, though ultimately victorious, is best known for the abject failure of its first expedition in which Bani Bu Ali forces routed their opponents - a result that ended the military career of Captain Perronet Thomson.
