Rare body-modification photography book "Onanisme Manu Militari II" by French body hacktivist / pioneer Lukas Zpira, published by Hors Éditions in April 2005. Signed and dated deluxe limited first edition copy, #33/250 copies. Hardback book, pictorial cover and dustjacket, 126 pages, illustrated throughout. Very good to near fine condition, the slightest shelfwear, no tears or chips or other inscriptions. Originally released in a box cover with a limited series photographic print and a DVD (not included). "Violence lies not in the act itself, but in the way others perceive it." Heir to the body art movement and pioneer avant garde of the genre, Lukas Zpira, essayist, film director and photographer, opened the first body modification and piercing studio in France in 1995. He founded the Body Hacktivism movement and wrote its manifesto while in Japan in 2002. Onanisme Manu Militari II takes the reader on a journey through an extraordinary artistic and philosophical universe, through previously unpublished artistic collaborations and texts that form the cornerstone of the author's work. These are complemented by contributions from Ryoichi Maeda, explorer of avant-garde body art and instigator of the body hacktivlame; Laurent Courau, a privileged witness to countercultures; sociologist Philippe Liotard; anthropologist David Le Breton; and Maxence Grugier, a journalist specializing in cybercultures.
