The Tours follow the amusing misadventures of the titular character, a foolish clergyman and schoolmaster, and satirize contemporary travel writing. Rowlandson created the vivid, caricature-style illustrations of Dr Syntax's various mishaps, and Coombe composed the narrative poems that accompany them.
