The Hunting of the Snark. First edition, in the publisher's deluxe binding of red cloth. Carroll's comic verse "describes with infinite humour the impossible voyage of an improbable crew to find an inconceivable creature" (Williams, Madan, Green & Crutch).The red cloth binding was the issue used by the author for presentation copies. He suggested that this binding might be advertised for sale at a shilling more than the buff cloth binding. No such advert has been traced.
