Scarlet Women 13: Sexuality. Parts 1 & 2. First edition of this two-part series containing essays, poetry, and short stories which address the oppression and experiences of lesbian women, heterosexuality, and emancipation. In comparison to other political women's magazines of the time, it was "perhaps the most ambitious in terms of its intellectual reach" (Forster, p. 113). Scarlet Women was established following the 1976 National Women's Liberation Conference and ran until 1982. The Sexuality issues contain a review of Adrienne Rich's classic lesbian feminist essay "Compulsory Heterosexuality and Lesbian Existence" (pp. 20-21), and a notable article on Islam and sexuality in Iran by one "Manny" (pp. 10-18), which has photographic illustrations. The series also includes articles by Sheila Jeffreys (pp. 22-27) and Al Garthwaite. It was printed by the Moss Side Community Press Women's Co-op in Manchester.
