Vintage five-book boxed set of The Great Brain series by John D. Fitzgerald, illustrated by Mercer Mayer and published by Dell Yearling Books. The set includes the first five adventures in matching numbered paperback editions: The Great Brain More Adventures of the Great Brain Me and My Little Brain The Great Brain at the Academy The Great Brain Reforms All five books feature the wonderful original Mercer Mayer cover artwork and interior illustrations. The stories follow Tom D. Fitzgerald—the clever, exasperating and frequently money-minded “Great Brain”—and his younger brother J.D. in turn-of-the-century Adenville, Utah. The books are housed in their original bright yellow illustrated slipcase marked “The Adventures of the Great Brain.” Complete vintage boxed sets with all five matching volumes and the original case are increasingly difficult to find. Condition: Good vintage condition overall. All five books are present. The paperbacks show age toning, cover rubbing, scuffs, small creases, edge wear and other evidence of reading and handling. The bindings appear intact. The original cardboard slipcase is heavily worn but complete. It has substantial rubbing, paper loss, peeling, bumped and worn corners, edge wear and areas of old tape or reinforcement. The yellow artwork and lettering remain bright and attractive despite the wear. Please examine all photographs carefully for the exact condition.
