This copy is in the second state, with the four cancels (pp. 15/16, 19/20, 25/26, and 69/70), which were printed after the discovery of several typographical errors two months after publication and "inserted in at least a few copies of Maud" (Peterson).Tennyson's psychologically troubled narrative poem was initially published in Maud, and Other Poems in 1855, his first collection after becoming Poet Laureate in 1850.
