Procreant Hymn. First edition, limited issue, number 41 of 200 copies, of which 175 were for sale. Procreant Hymn is first book illustrated by Eric Gill for the Golden Cockerel Press, to which he contributed five copper engravings: in order, these are titled "God Sending", "Earth Waiting", "Earth Inviting", "Dalliance", and "Earth Receiving", though their names are not printed in the book.The book was printed in Caslon type on handmade paper. The "explicit eroticism" of Gill's illustrations "shocked many of his former supporters and drew puzzled reproaches from the Dominicans" (ODNB).
