An important and increasingly difficult-to-find Anglican liturgical book, produced to provide the services of the American 1979 Book of Common Prayer in traditional Anglican language. The 1979 BCP retained traditional language for some rites but not for such services as Baptism, Marriage, Ordination and Compline. The Anglican Service Book supplied traditional-language forms more comprehensively and incorporated material from other Anglican liturgical sources, including the Anglican Missal, Sarum tradition and Book of Occasional Services. It also contains The Psalter or Psalms of David and Additional Devotions. Particularly associated with traditional and Anglo-Catholic Anglican/Episcopal worship, this is an interesting artifact of the liturgical response to the 1979 American Prayer Book.
