First edition of this pamphlet entirely devoted to the ongoing dispute over the Iranian occupation of the islands of Abu Musa and the Greater and Lesser Tunbs, in the Strait of Hormuz, facing the coasts of the emirates of Sharjah and Ras al-Khaimah. We have traced no institutional copies outside the Middle East.The islands were seized by Iran on 30 November 1971, just after the withdrawal of the British forces and a few days before the formation of the UAE. Jaber Ibrahim al-Rawi (d. 2003), an Iraqi lawyer, analyses the dispute's key issues: the geographical status of the islands, Iran's attempts to expand into Arab territories and its sovereignty claims, the position of Arab law in rebutting those claims, and the application of international law, particularly regarding occupation by force. The legal sources used range from Hugo Grotius's "law of the Seas" to official documents from the 1980s.
