This listing is for a genuine 70mm film frame, which was taken from Stanley Kubrick's personal print of 2001: A Space Odyssey. The frame has been mounted to a lab-printed 8x10" photo for display. The frame is taken from the scene where Dave Bowman, realizing that HAL has betrayed the crew, decides to attempt a leap through the vacuum of space to reach the airlock door from his pod. But first, he takes a moment to respectfully send the remains of his fallen comrade Frank Poole out to the stars. In the frame for sale here, we see Dave's pod turning back toward the Discovery One spacecraft, with Frank's body floating away in the distance. In addition, the winner will receive an oversized, First Edition copy of The Stanley Kubrick Archives, which was the original source of the film frame. After Kubrick's death in 1999, Taschen Publishing was chosen by the Kubrick Estate to publish the legendary director's archives. They spent several years combing through millions of items. In 2005, they published The Stanley Kubrick Archives, a comprehensive look at his filmography. To make the occasion even more special, the Kubrick family donated Stanley's personal 70mm filmprint of 2001: A Space Odyssey, so that the First Edition copies could each contain an original filmstrip directly from the Kubrick Archives. The First Editions also have a significantly larger size (including tabbed pages for easy reference), and a CD containing audio interviews with Kubrick. The CD is still included here.
