Education Automation. First edition, first printing, an association copy, owned by Chicago artist Jane "Jano" Walley. Fuller directed the 1949 Summer Institute at Black Mountain College, where he invited six friends and colleagues to teach. Among them were Jane and her husband John, both major contributors to the Chicago arts scene in the 1940s and 1950s.Jane studied at the Design Institute of Chicago, where she met John, who stayed and became a member of faculty. She pursued a career as an artist and taught at several Midwest art institutions, including the University of Illinois, where Fuller's lecture Education Automation was delivered. Many of her artworks, including jewellery, ceramics, and metal sculptures, are held at the Chicago History Museum. Fuller was a professor at Southern Illinois University from 1959 to 1975. His home in Carbondale, Illinois, was the only geodesic dome house he ever lived in. He delivered this address to the Southern Illinois University Edwardsville campus planning committee on 22 April 1961. In it, he anticipates the need to rethink education in the light of information technology, an "upcoming major world industry". Loosely inserted into this copy are newspaper clippings pertaining to Fuller and a handwritten note to Jane from her friend, Marion C. Tuttle of San Diego.
